Montrose 2 Clyde 1
Stewart Petrie's reign as Montrose manager began in winning fashion, the Gable Endies recording a home win over Barry Ferguson's Clyde.
The visitors, fresh from a 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Arbroath, started well, David Gormley hitting a shot straight at Montrose goalkeeper Jordan Millar. They also created a number of half chances from a free kick after 12 minutes, Millar finally punching the ball out for Andrew Steeves to boot the ball clear.
Montrose took the lead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute. Paul Watson curled a corner into the box, but as the ball came in, Martin McNiff pulled Callum MacDonald down.
GARY FRASER stepped up to take the penalty kick, sending the ball into the bottom corner.
Clyde equalised seven minutes after half time with a penalty of their own after Callum MacDonald handled the ball. PETER MACDONALD made no mistakes with the spot kick.
Jordan Millar kept Montrose on level terms with a string of outstanding saves in the second half, denying both Ewan McNeil and Peter MacDonald twice.
Andrew Steeves created a good chance in the 69th minute, firing the ball across goal from the left wing, but none of his team mates was able to apply a finishing touch.
Montrose only had to wait two more minutes for their second goal, Cammy Balantyne surging down the right wing, cutting into the box and passing the ball to the front post. GRAHAM WEBSTER slid in to poke the ball into the net.
Clyde's Ross Perry headed wide from a corner in the 79th minute.
Montrose should have put the result beyond doubt two minutes into stoppage time when Ross Campbell raced down the right and squared the ball for Jonny Court, but the young striker blasted wide of the target.
