Montrose 0 Alloa Athletic 2
MONTROSE suffered a third successive defeat in the League Cup, losing to Alloa in their final home match of the competition.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Iain Flannigan's corner to the back post was met by Greig SPENCE, the striker's shot bouncing into the net via an outstretched Montrose defender's leg.
They doubled their advantage in the 50th minute, the unmarked Izaac LAYNE stooping to head home at the back post from Steven Hetherington's cross.
Alloa had looked the more dangerous side throughout the match, Montrose goalkeeper Allan Fleming forced into a double save in the 15th minute to keep Spence at bay.
Alloa had the ball in the Montrose net in the 24th minute when Spence fired home the rebound after Layne's shot had been saved by Fleming, but the striker was adjudged to be offside.
There were few clear-cut chances in the second half, Hetherington firing over from the edge of the box and Montrose's Michael Bolochoweckyj's having a header from a Paul Watson free kick tipped over.
Montrose ended the match with nine men on the field, Bolochoweckyj taken off with an ankle injury after a challenge by Jon Robertson, and Chris Hegarty stretchered off at the end of the match with a damaged knee.
