FUNDRAISERS DONATE £5K TO MIGHTY MO
The small group of volunteers, active for a number of years now, work tirelessly to not only raise funds, but also increase the awareness of the great facilities at Links Park as well as bringing a family feel to all aspects of the Club.
Committee Member Ross Thomson said, “We try and cater for as many groups as possible from our regular Bingo sessions to our kids Christmas Parties, from Race Nights and Candle Parties to Wine Tasting evenings.”
On receiving the cheque, Gable Endies boss Stewart Petrie said, “On behalf of the Club I would like to sincerely thank the Fundraising Committee for this fantastic donation.
“In my short time here, I have been so impressed with the commitment and dedication of these volunteers with much of their work going unnoticed.
“A small Club like ours cannot survive on matchday income alone which is why donations like this are so important to us.”
Upcoming events include Bingo and a Gable Endies Derby Race Night, details of which can be found on the Clubs website and social media pages.

BLUE TOON MIDFIELDER JOINS MIGHTY MO
Montrose FC have signed midfielder Jamie Redman on a 1 year deal. The experienced 30 year old left Peterhead last month, having been with the Blue Toon for the past 6 years.
Jamie celebrated his first season at Balmoor by winning player of the year and was a stalwart in their league winning side of 2013-14. Last season he made 32 appearances for Jim McInally’s side including both legs of the promotion play off semi-final against the Gable Endies.
Having captained the Scottish Universities' side when a student at Edinburgh University, then boss Steven Tweed tried to bring Redman to Links Park in 2009, but the youngster chose instead to join Arbroath, then Brechin before heading north in 2011.
Assistant Manager Ross Campbell said, "I have known Jamie since 2003 when he was at University. Jamie is not only a very good player but an excellent professional which is the type of person we are keen to bring to the club. He will complement the group that we have and make the team better so is a signing we are very pleased to make."
Jamie added, "I am delighted to sign for Montrose and excited to get the season started. I saw the character of the team first hand in the play offs and as soon as I knew they were interested in signing me I was very pleased."
This brings the number of newbies in the Montrose squad for next season to 6, following hard on the heels of the signing earlier today of Dean Brett.
SIGNING FRENZY AT LINKS PARK
Montrose FC Manager Stewart Petrie was a busy boy yesSP Signsterday as he continued to shape his side in readiness for next season, before extending his own contract until summer 2019.
A combination of 4 new signings and 8 contract extensions saw the Gable Endies squad size for the upcoming campaign increase to 16.
Three of the new faces are familiar to Links Park, with Forfar midfielder Martyn Fotheringham (34) returning after a break of 11 years, striker Danny Cavanagh (23) moving from Broughty Athletic for a second spell and defender Matty Allan (21) making last season’s loan move from Dundee a permanent one after being released by the Premiership side. Cowdenbeath’s Craig Johnston (22) is also set to join the Gable Endies to further strengthen Petrie’s attacking options.
Martyn and Craig both featured in play-off action over the weekend, with Johnston scoring in the penalty shoot-out success against East Kilbride and Fotheringham netting in an impressive promotion victory over Peterhead. All 4 have signed pre-contract agreements for one year deals.
Much speculation surrounded the future of talisman Chris Templemen and with the Mo faithful chanting ‘One More Year’ from the terraces towards the end of the season, Petrie was delighted to announce that the 37 year old striker has agreed to a one year extension, keeping him at the Club until summer 2018.
Paul Watson, Terry Masson, Liam Callaghan, Allan Fleming and Jordan Millar have also accepted one year extensions whilst wingers Graham Webster and Ryan Ferguson have committed themselves to the Club on 2 year deals.
Petrie said, “I am delighted with all these signings. We had a good side last year and came close in the play-offs, so it was important to keep the nucleus of the team but look to strengthen in key areas. Chris’s decision to stay is fabulous and being able to attract the quality of Martyn is fantastic. Young Danny and Craig will bring freshness to the side to compliment the experience of others and securing the services of Matty was a huge bonus for us.
“With the rest of the boys agreeing to extensions along with the already signed Steeves, Fraser, Hay and Bolochoweckyj, we are in a really good place, but we still have a few more to add and I hope to do that soon.”
On Petrie’s own contract extension, Club Chairman John Crawford added, “Stewart has done brilliantly since joining us, exceeding our expectations. Taking the Club to our first promotion play-off in 9 years was a remarkable achievement, given where we were when he arrived. He is settling really well into his first senior managerial position and we are therefore delighted he has agreed to extend his contract until the summer of 2019.”
The Club also confirmed that Chris Hegarty, Kieran McWalter, Gregor Anderson, Declan Milne, Kyle McLeod and Lloyd Hester have all been released and everyone at the Club would like to wish them all the very best for the future.
PETRIE STENGTHENS DEFENSIVE OPTIONS
Stewart Petrie said, “This is fantastic news for us and I am delighted Dean has agreed to join. He has had a difficult last couple of years personally, but his ability on the park has never been in question and I consider him one of the best right backs in our division.”
Edinburgh born Brett began his career at Cowdenbeath in 2009 and played 149 games for The Blue Brazil, scoring 9 goals.
However, in February this year the Central Park side sacked Dean after he was found guilty by the SFA of gambling on football matches.
The 24 year old admitted to having a long term gambling addiction, made worse during a traumatic few years in his personal life, with his 22-year-old wife having died of cancer in January 2015, four months after their daughter Mollie, who was born prematurely, had died.
Since leaving Cowdenbeath, the defender has been receiving professional help and played out the remainder of the season with Junior outfit Bonnyrigg Ross Athletic.
Petrie added, “Dean knows what he did in the past was wrong. He has accepted his punishment, is receiving help for his problems and I am more than happy to give the boy a second chance.”
This brings the Montrose squad for next season to 17 and the Gable Endies gaffer says he is still looking to add one or two more names to the list before too long.
DONE DEAL! - STEWART PETRIE SIGNS
Montrose FC are delighted to announce that Manager Stewart Petrie has agreed terms to extend his contract at Links Park until the summer of 2019.
Having arrived in December last year to take on his first top flight managerial role, Stewart took the Mighty Mo from rock bottom of League 2 to a promotion play-off semi-final in just 6 months.
SP's Barmy Army, which grows stronger by the day will be delighted with the news and next season is eagerly awaited with much excitement and optimism.

Redesigned, reinvented and rejuvenated, the Delta is back as Mitre’s new official match ball for the EFL, SPFL and WPL, engineered for optimal control, accuracy and power.
Instantly recognisable thanks to its heritage, the Delta holds a unique place at the heart of British football and over the years has been treasured by players and fans alike. Last seen on Scottish football pitches in 2001, its return means that a new generation of players can now have their first football experiences with a brand new ball with the same legendary trademark. This season the Delta returns – resigned, reinvented and rejuvenated – wearing the classic fluo and silver colourway which makes the SPFL ball unique.
This, the most advanced football from Mitre, features brand new technology including a textured surface for instinctive aerodynamic control. The added embossed grooves provide up to 400% more stability at speeds of 30 – 45 mph as well as greater accuracy vs a flat panel construction of the same ball¹.
A distinctive 14 panel design with innovative Hyperseam™ technology ensures optimum energy dissipation and a super accurate flight. Combining the benefits of bonded and stitched seams guarantees superb speed and pin-point accuracy with a consistent feel, almost zero water uptake² and superior durability. A laminated bladder combined with a rubber sheet constructed in between two layers of foam backing give explosive power coupled with improved control.
Mark Upshall, Head of Category at Mitre Sports International, says; “We’re really proud of the Delta trademark and its iconic heritage so can’t wait to bring it back. Our new Delta ball has been updated with brand new technology to make it our most innovative football yet. We hope its return will inspire new moments of football brilliance among future generations – the same way it has with players in the past”.

IRN-BRU CUP WELCOMES LEAGUE OF IRELAND PARTICIPANTS
The SPFL is pleased to announce a further expansion of the IRN-BRU Cup with the introduction of two League of Ireland representatives to the competition next season.
The announcement follows the success of a new format in 2016/17, which saw two teams each from Northern Ireland and Wales, additional clubs from the Highland and Lowland Leagues and all Ladbrokes Premiership under-20 Colt teams taking part for the first time.
Now, following UEFA approval, Bray Wanderers and Sligo Rovers – as the League of Ireland’s highest-ranked non-European participants in 2016 – will join the 2017/18 IRN-BRU Cup along with the Northern Irish and Welsh teams (Crusaders, Linfield, The New Saints and Gap Connah’s Quay) at the Second Round stage. The First Round Draw for the 2017/18 IRN-BRU Cup, which will be competed for by 56 teams in total, will take place on Tuesday, 27 June. Full competition format details will be announced in due course.
Last season’s new format and new participants also led to a new sponsor with soft drink brand IRN-BRU showing its continued support for Scottish football with a three-year sponsorship of the Scottish Challenge Cup, now the IRN-BRU Cup. The second season of their backing will see IRN-BRU Cup holders Dundee United, who beat St Mirren 2-1 in this year’s Fir Park final, defend the trophy with two new rivals added to the mix.
SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: “We are thrilled to be working with our friends at the League of Ireland and offer both Bray Wanderers and Sligo Rovers a warm welcome to the IRN-BRU Cup following a very successful first year under the new format.
“Scottish football is leading the way with innovation around cross-border football which is likely to be a key part of the footballing landscape in the coming years. We developed strong and positive relationships with our counterparts in Northern Ireland and Wales last season, alongside our iconic and innovative sponsor, IRN-BRU, and look forward to doing the same with the League of Ireland, Bray Wanderers and Sligo Rovers in 2017/18.”
Welcoming League of Ireland clubs Sligo Rovers and Bray Wanderers into the competition, Adrian Troy, Marketing Director at IRN-BRU, said: “The revamped IRN-BRU Cup competition has proven to be a real hit with players, managers and supporters who last season enjoyed the exciting experience of being able to compete against different opposition, as well as travelling down to Wales and over to Northern Ireland.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Sligo Rovers and Bray Wanderers from the League of Ireland this season as the decision to extend the cross-border element is an innovative and unique approach for British and Irish football. As the football sponsor with balls we’ll continue to bring new ideas and personality to the cup while playing our part in connecting supporters to the competition on the road to the IRN-BRU Cup Final.”
FAI Director of Competitions, Fran Gavin added: “The Football Association of Ireland were delighted to receive the invitation for two SSE Airtricity Premier Division teams to participate in the IRN-BRU Cup. I know both Sligo Rovers and Bray Wanderers are relishing the opportunity to play against new opposition and will be looking to advance as far as possible in the competition. Both clubs have full time professional squads and have a reputation for playing an exciting brand of football which we hope will enhance the IRN-BRU Cup.
“We have watched the competition grow with the inclusion of clubs from Wales and Northern Ireland last season and we are delighted to be participating in the 2017/18 IRN-BRU Cup.”
The Scottish Challenge Cup was established for season 1990/91 to mark the Scottish Football League’s centenary and has been run every year since (with the exception of 1998/99).
