FROM BOTTOM TO TOP - SP ‘ONE YEAR ON’
On the 4th December last year Stewart Petrie walked into Links Park with the Gable Endies propping up the League 2 table.
One year on and things couldn’t be any different, with SP’s Barmy Army enjoying watching a side that now sits proudly at the top of the pile.
A solid defence, marshalled by Sean Dillon has made the Mighty Mo difficult to beat this season with only 2 league defeats to date.
Petrie has also enjoyed tackling teams from higher divisions with cup wins over Alloa, Ayr Utd and a narrow replay defeat to Championship outfit Queen of the South.
The new Boss’s reign began last December with the Club’s first home win of the season against Clyde that led to a 4 game unbeaten run and started a steady climb up the table.
The season ended with a nail biting finale that secured a promotion play off place for the first time in 9 years.
A valiant home draw against League 1 Peterhead in the semi final first leg couldn’t be matched at Balmoor but the Mo faithful headed off for their summer holidays encouraged by a new sense of optimism at Links Park
This season started with tough defeats to Hibs and Ross County in the Betfred Cup but Petrie’s priority was always to make a positive League start and he has done just that with a 28 point return from his first 14 games.
Overall, Petrie’s league record in the last 12 months reads 19 wins, 10 draws and only 7 defeats.
Impressive stats indeed for the first time Manager who will undoubtedly be looking to build further on his sides great form in the second half of the season and deliver something the Gable Endies haven’t enjoyed for over 20 years....promotion!
