GABLE ENDIES ADD FIREPOWER ON DEADLINE DAY
Montrose FC have agreed terms with Peterhead for the transfer of striker Russell McLean, who joins the Gable Endies on a short term contract until the end of the season.
The 20 year old is a former Hearts youngster, who joined the Blue Toon in 2017, scoring 17 goals in his 45 appearances last season and netting 6 times this term so far.
Manager Stewart Petrie said, “I am delighted to have gotten this over the line on Deadline Day. Russell will be a great addition for us, he is a real handful to play against and has always impressed me.
“We tried to bring him in the summer, but the timing wasn’t right and sometimes you have to be patient. I am excited to see what his height and goal scoring threat can do for us going forward.”
MO KEEPER MILLAR MOVES ON
Montrose FC have agreed terms with Lochee Utd for the transfer of goalkeeper Jordan Millar to the McBookie.com Super League outfit.
A fans favourite at Links Park, Millar made his debut against Forfar Athletic in the Petrofac Cup in July 2015 whilst on a season long loan from St Johnstone.
After being released by the Premiership side the following year, the Fife based player made a permanent move to Links Park and has since made over 60 appearances.
The 21-year old was part of Stewart Petrie’s Ladbrokes League 2 winning squad last season but the continued good form of Allan Fleming has prevented him from getting regular game time.
Everyone at the Club wishes Jordan all the very best for the future.
A HUGE THANKS TO THE MO FAITHFUL
With the dust now settled following the excitement of the Cup, the Club would like to sincerely thank the 3,604 who turned out to show their support last weekend when Links Park witnessed the biggest crowd in Tayside.
Club Chairman John Crawford said, “It was such a big day for the Club and it was fantastic that almost 1,500 Montrose fans came along.
“Our support base, both home and away has been steadily growing over the last few years, which is truly appreciated by the players, management and the Board.
“We had all hoped for a closer game last Saturday. I thought our boys gave a good account of themselves, but we were simply undone by a very professional United performance.
“For now it’s back to league business and I hope our fans continue to turn out in numbers in the coming weeks as we look to consolidate our position.
“I would also like to acknowledge the large United support, who helped us reach our biggest crowd since the visit of Rangers back in 2013.”
TITLE WINNING MILNE RETURNS TO LINKS PARK
Montrose FC have agreed terms with Raith Rovers for the transfer of Lewis Milne in an 18 month deal that will see the midfielder return to Links Park until the summer of 2020.
The 24 year old first joined the Gable Endies from Angus neighbours Forfar Athletic in last year’s January transfer window and went on to play a vital role in an historic league run-in for Stewart Petrie’s side, scoring 11 goals from his 16 appearances.
Unsurprisingly, with this outstanding conversion rate, the chance of full time football came calling and Petrie reluctantly allowed the youngster to move to Stark’s Park in the summer.
Unable to establish himself in John McGlynn’s setup, having made only 5 starts this term, Petrie has moved quickly to lure Milne back to further strengthen his plans to establish the Angus Club as a League 1 side.
Petrie said, “We are delighted to have got this deal over the line. Lewis brings pace in forward areas, creativity in midfield and is a constant danger from his dead ball delivery.”
Milne will go straight into the squad for the Ladbrokes League 1 match at Dumbarton on Saturday.
BIG MATCH RAFFLE WINNERS
With Hospitality being run both at the Club and in the Park Hotel for last Saturday’s big game, we had two sets of raffle winners.

Club: Graeme Davies (shirt), Ken Pirie (ball) and Holly Anderson (wine).
FERGIE AND CAVANAGH DEPART LINKS PARK
Ryan Ferguson and Danny Cavanagh have been released from their contracts with Montrose FC by mutual consent.
24 year old Ryan joined the Gable Endies in 2015 from Angus neighbours Brechin City and made 75 appearances, scoring 4 goals.
Despite coming off the bench 5 times for last season’s Ladbrokes League 2 Champions, Ryan has spent much of the last 2 years out on loan.
Cavanagh arrived in 2017 from Broughty Athletic, but his first season was blighted by injury and despite 14 appearances and 2 goals this term, he has found it increasingly difficult to break into the starting 11 in recent months.
Everyone at the Club wishes both Ryan and Danny all the very best for the future.
