PETRIE SECURES EXPERIENCED DEFENDER FOR ANOTHER YEAR
The experienced Kirkcaldy born defender had been on a short term contract with the Gable Endies since the start of the season, providing cover for Stewart Petrie’s injury stricken squad.
Unbeaten in his 5 games, Campbell has helped bring a solidity to the defence, gelling well at centre half with new signing Sean Dillon and even scoring a peach of free kick in the recent away win at Edinburgh City.
The 32 year old first arrived at Links Park a year ago from Forfar, ironically being brought in then to also provide short term injury cover, before going on to secure a season long contract, making a total of 22 appearances.
Petrie said, “Iain is a hugely experienced defender and great professional. He will be a real asset for us and will feature again today as we face what will be a tough challenge away to Annan Athletic.”
Campbell started his career in 2002 with Dunfermline Athletic where he made 36 appearances for the Fife side. In 2006, he moved to fellow SPL club Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee and during his time there spent loan spells with both Ross County and Clyde.
In 2008 Campbell had one season with Alloa Athletic before joining Forfar Athletic where he enjoyed five seasons, 148 appearances and 13 goals.
Briefly moving to Cowdenbeath in 2014, Iain returned to Station Park, initially on loan, before resigning for The Loons in 2015.
