GIN TASTING PROVES EDUCATIONAL TONIC
A group of teachers from Montrose Academy celebrated the start of their Easter break with a special Gin Tasting event at Links Park, organised by the Club’s Fundraising Committee.
Club Announcer (and fellow teacher), Ross Thomson, guided the group through the subtle differences between a range of different gin’s and what type of tonic was best to bring out the flavour of each spirit.
A great time was had by all, although some found this more testing than others, and rumour has it, it may become part of the curriculum next term...

MIGHTY MO DIRECTOR JOINS BOARD OF EUROPE’S ELITE
Montrose FC Director Peter Davidson has been appointed to the Board of the European Football for Development Network (EFDN), further endorsing the great community work undertaken by the club together with its charitable arm, Links Park Community Trust (LPCT).
The vision of EFDN is to promote and use the connecting power of football as a tool for social development and a more social society, aimed at International, national and local community programmes for disadvantaged young people and adults in Europe.
The network consists of the most community focussed clubs, of all sizes, from throughout Europe with members including, Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, PSG, Rangers, Celtic, Benfica and Sparta Prague.
Montrose FC, recently crowned ‘Best Professional Club in the Community’ by the Scottish FA, have been members of the EFDN since 2016, represented by Peter as Chief Executive of LPCT.
Peter said, ‘’I am both honoured and excited to be joining the Board of the European Football for Development Network.
“Football has the ability, and with that an obligation to engage, inspire and support many, particularly those that are most disadvantaged in our communities.
“Membership of the network has allowed LPCT to access European funding, engage in pan-European projects with fellow members, but more importantly, learn and share best practice with regards the development and delivery of community benefitting programmes.
“I am delighted to now be taking our involvement to the next level, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow Board Members in supporting Hubert Rovers (EFDN CEO) and his team as they continue to expand the size, reach and impact of the organisation’’
Peter is pictured left with, fellow Board Members Balint Maté (Ferencvaros), Ton Strooband (Feyenoord Rotterdam), Wim Beerlaert (KAA Gent) and Jan Ryrlen (IF Elfsborg).
MIGHTY MO MAKE CRACKING OFFER TO KIDS
Montrose FC are shelling out to provide all their young fans with a free cream egg ahead of their Easter weekend fixture against Edinburgh City at Links Park.
Young players Matty Allan, Cammy Ballantyne and Lewis Milne were egg-cited to hear the news, which they first thought was a yoke!
Stewart Petrie’s side are pushing for promotion from Ladbrokes League 2 and the manager is urging the Mo faithful to turn out in numbers to support the boys.
Stewart said, “Our fans have been egg-celent this year and the players really appreciate the support. We hatched a plan back in August and we are egg-static with how things have panned out so far.
“The Easter egg giveaway on Saturday is a great gesture by the Club. I thought it was to everyone but the Chairman told me I was meringue, and that it was only our younger fans!.”
Club Mascot Monty Mole will be on hand just prior to kick off, in front of the Bryan Keith Stand to hand out the cream eggs to the kids.
TEMPS MAKES SPFL TEAM OF THE WEEKCongratulations to Chris Templeman, whose Man of the Match performance on Saturday has earned him a place in the SPFL Team of the Week.
CAVANAGH JOINS BROUGHTY ON LOAN
Montrose FC have loaned out Danny Cavanagh to Junior outfit Broughty Athletic until the end of the season.
The 23 year old arrived at Links Park last summer as one of Stewart Petrie’s first signings, but an injury blighted season has prevented the youngster from breaking into the first team.
Now fully fit again, Petrie hopes the loan spell to his former club will provide some much needed game time.
1879 BUSINESS CLUB - FEATURE MEMBER
Liz Carnie of Powerwasher Services Ltd met with Mo Assistant Manager, Ross Campbell, and First Team Coach, Seán Dillon, at the club's most recent networking event, which saw members hear from both Ross and Seán about their footballing and wider professional careers.
Liz said "Powerwasher Services is a family run business based near Laurencekirk that sells and repairs cleaning equipment. We deal mainly with pressure washers, but also supply a range of cleaning equipment from vacuum cleaners and scrubber/dryers to space heaters and custom built industrial cleaning machinery. We also offer a repair service for any make of machine"
"We support a number of clubs in Angus and also have a trackside board in place at Links Park. We're delighted to be able to further support Montrose FC by being part of the 1879 Business Club and particularly enjoy having the chance to meet with other members and hear from guest speakers at their member networking events"
TOP PRIZE FOR MURRAY
Congratulations to Murray Ross, who walked off with first prize in last weekend’s Corporate Hospitality raffle.
After enjoying a first class meal and an enthralling top of the table clash, Murray’s name was pulled from the hat after the game to win a Mo away shirt, signed by the first team squad and presented by Club Director, Barry O’Neill.
Well done Murray!
BALLANTYNE RETURNS TO GABLE ENDIES ON LOAN
Dundee United defender Cammy Ballantyne has returned to Montrose FC on loan until the end of the season.
The 20 year right back spent the first half of the season at Links Park before being recalled by United boss Csaba Laszlo in January following a spate of defensive injuries to the tangerine outfit.
In what will be his third loan spell with the Club, Ballantyne’s youthfulness, energy and pace made him an ever present on the team sheet pre-Christmas, making 23 appearances, netting twice and winning the SPFL Player of the Month for November.
Cammy first joined the Gable Endies in August 2016 and made 33 appearances last season, quickly becoming a fans favourite. With the arrival of Mo Boss Stewart Petrie in December that year, the young defenders performances and potential flourished, culminating in a call up to the Scotland Under 21 squad in March 2017 against Estonia. He also left for his summer holidays with both the Young Player of the Year and Supporters Club Player of the Year awards under his arm.
Petrie said, "I am absolutely delighted to have Cammy back. We had always planned to have him for the whole season and his recall in January, whilst understandable, was unexpected and a bit unsettling at the time.
“He is a breath of fresh air around the place and brings a more natural balance to our back line with a combination of defensive strength and attacking pace.”
Petrie will hope his return will prove a perfect tonic to his promotion chasing side as they go head to head with Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Peterhead tomorrow.
