BALLANTYNE RETURNS TO GABLE ENDIES ON LOAN
Dundee United defender Cammy Ballantyne has returned to Montrose FC on loan until the end of the season.
The 20 year right back spent the first half of the season at Links Park before being recalled by United boss Csaba Laszlo in January following a spate of defensive injuries to the tangerine outfit.
In what will be his third loan spell with the Club, Ballantyne’s youthfulness, energy and pace made him an ever present on the team sheet pre-Christmas, making 23 appearances, netting twice and winning the SPFL Player of the Month for November.
Cammy first joined the Gable Endies in August 2016 and made 33 appearances last season, quickly becoming a fans favourite. With the arrival of Mo Boss Stewart Petrie in December that year, the young defenders performances and potential flourished, culminating in a call up to the Scotland Under 21 squad in March 2017 against Estonia. He also left for his summer holidays with both the Young Player of the Year and Supporters Club Player of the Year awards under his arm.
Petrie said, "I am absolutely delighted to have Cammy back. We had always planned to have him for the whole season and his recall in January, whilst understandable, was unexpected and a bit unsettling at the time.
“He is a breath of fresh air around the place and brings a more natural balance to our back line with a combination of defensive strength and attacking pace.”
Petrie will hope his return will prove a perfect tonic to his promotion chasing side as they go head to head with Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Peterhead tomorrow.
