Montrose v Stenhousemuir
Links Park Stadium, Montrose
Saturday 23rd March 2019
Kick Off: 3.00pm
League 1 Table 2018/19
Montrose FC U15s 2 Dundee FC U15s 4
The Gable Endies entertained our local Premier League rivals Dundee to Links Park missing holiday makers Ross Fraser and Dawson Sawyer, fresh from an excellent victory v Ross County in their previous game. Mo also added Cove BC players Damien Kalinowski and Josh Paton to the squad for the day. Unfortunately the kick-off was delayed when the referee failed to show and both sides then agreed to play the game with a coach from each team taking the whistle for a half each.
Matters were very even in the opening 45 minutes and Mo keeper Fraser Burnett produced a couple of excellent saves in the first stanza.Neither team completely dominated but Ryan Hunt and Liam Stewart were creating most of the problems for the Dees down their left hand side. So no real surprise when the match ended all square at 0-0 at half time.
The second half started brightly for the home side however it was the wee Dees who took the lead from a free kick and it resulted in another free header from a couple of yards out and the Dundee player no option but to score. The Might Mo rolled up their sleeves and equalised soon after with an excellent looping header from Liam Stewart. Better was to follow when a good one-two between Reece Lornie and Dylan Stephen resulted in a cool finish from Lornie from 12 yards out. Mo pushed for the next goal and were unlucky not to make it 3-1 after a good move on the right hand side. This was to prove costly as another free header was punished in the Montrose box to make to 2-2.
The game was flowing from end to end but unfortunately it was the visitors who grabbed lead again a free header and indecision in the Montrose goal mouth. This seemed to "knock the stuffing" out on the Gable Endies and Dundee added a further goal and the game finished 4-2 in favour of the Dees. A disappointing day all round firstly with no referee and secondly a game the Mo could and should have won.
So onto an away fixutre v Livingston next week and hopefully a positive result and performance.
