Celtic U17s 2 Montrose U17s 1
Mo travelled to Barrowfield Training Centre in Glasgow with Parkhead in the background without coach Bridgwater who was attending a course regarding his UEFA B Licence. Messrs Gibson and Hunt were in charge for what is always a very difficult fixure. Mo were also missing injured defensive stalward Rohan Terrell. The pitch at Barrowfield was in outstanding condition and the Mo made a very positive start with Dobbie's "flick-on" striking the arm of the Celtic defender and the referee had no hesitation pointing to the spot. The normally reliable Kieran Thomson struck the penalty well, low and hard however somehow the home keeper dived full length to pull off a great save. The game was played at an excellent pace with both teams doing well but it was the home side who had the "Lisbon Lions" share of the ball. Just when it looked likely to finish 0-0 at half time the Mighty Mo scored an excellent goal. Built up from the back it involved excellent inter-play and passing from Dylan Stephen, Jackson Dobbie and Fraser MacLeod who found Ryan Hunt who cut inside and hit a good shot from 20 yards which the keeper could only parry and Liam Stewart rammed home the rebound. Unfortunately this lead was short lived and Celtic equalised with the last kick of the half with another excellent strike which beat the despairing effort of Fraser Burnett.
The second half continued in a similar vain with Celtic having the bulk of the possession however the Mo more than matched our illustrious opponents and looked dangerous on the break. The boys were putting on a tremendous show and effort and were extremely unlucky to go 2-1 down when a lucky break of the ball allowed an opportunity in the box for the Celtic striker and he made no mistake. The Mo continued to work hard however there were a few chances at either end but neither team was able to take them and the match finished in favour of the home side by a one goal margin. A really excellent game and a first class effort from the boys against quality opposition and some very positive feedback from our Premier League coach's and parents. A very pleasing performance and we now look to build on this moving into the next Club Academy games.
