Montrose U17s 2 Queen of the South U17s 1
After an excellent performance at Celtic the previous week the Gable Endies entertained the "high flying" Doonhammers to Links Park in confident mood. Conditions were ideal and the Mo looking to take full advantage of being at home and the long bus journey from Dumfries. It was a fairly even start however it was the visitors who took the lead when a harmless pass back crept into the net much to the surprise of the Mo defence. However the boys didn't let this set them back and pushed hard for the equaliser before half time. Despite the Gable Endies efforts the half ended 1-0 in favour of our visitors Queens.
The boys didn't let their heads go down and following encouraging words from the coach's at half time started the second half full of energy and took the game to Queens. The Mo were eventually rewarded when winger Liam Stewart made no mistake from inside the box following good lead up play. The Gable Endies keep up the pressure and pushed for the winner and were now on top in the match. They continued to push and finally the hosts took the lead when Kieran Thomson burst into the Queens penalty area and coolly slotted past the despairing keeper. The game flowed from end to end but Montrose were looking more likely however there was no further scoring and the Mighty Mo secured their first victory of the season. Perhaps not our best performance so far but without doubt the team deserved that for their excellent effort since the start of the season and should have claimed all three points away to Alloa Athletic earlier. So a positive result and hope the boys can push on from here. Next up for our young side is a trip to Inverurie Locos in the U20s Cup which will be a massive test physically.
