Montrose U17s 5 Dundee U17s 3
Mo welcomed our local rivals Dundee to Links Park in what are always fiercely contested matches and looking for a second consecutive victory following a "gritty" 2-1 win over Queen of the South in our last outing. With Euan Rose injured again and Fraser Burnett just returning from injury youngster Tyler Webley started in goal after an impressive debut in the U20 Scottish Cup v Inverurie Locos. The Gable Endies were up for the battle and took the game to Dundee. The Mo took the lead early on after good pressing from Ross Fraser his blocked tackle saw the ball soar over the Dundee keepers head into the net for a deserved lead. This lead didn't last long and a break through the heart of the Mo midfield and defence saw the ball break kindly to the onrushing Dundee player who made no mistake with the finish to make it 1-1. The Mo however were not to be denied and pressed forward and were rewarded when midfielder Kieran Thomson volleyed home following a corner to the home side. That was how it finished first half and the Mo had a 2-1 lead.
The Mighty Mo started the second half where they left off and pushed forward. The boys were rewarded when Kieran Thomson scored his second of the day from inside the box then Montrose added a further two goals with two oustanding strikes from "super sub" Damian Kalinowski with his first one in particular an excellent finish on his left foot. To be fair to Dundee they didn't give up and took advantage of a bit of complacency in the Mo rearguard and pulled a couple of goals back in the last 10 minutes of the match. So the game finished 5-3 in favour of the Mighty Mo and although the two late goals for the Dee took a bit of the shine off the result overall this was an excellent performance from the boys beating our Premier League opponents well. A well deserved result for the boys and reward for an excellent performance which hasn't always been the case this season with a number of points dropped late in games. A great win and the boys look to make it three in a row away to Stirling Albion on Sunday 15th October.
