Montrose 1 Cowdenbeath 0

Montrose continued their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a victory over Cowdenbeath.

The only goal of the game came in the 19th minute when Sean DILLON connected with  header from a Martyn Fotheringham corner. The Cowdenbeath defender on the goal line could only head the ball against the crossbar and into the net.

The sides nullified each other for much of the match, with clear cut chances few and far between.

Chris Templeman came close with a header from an Iain Campbell corner in the 26th minute, the ball flying over the crossbar.

Cowdenbeath’s Cameron Muirhead deserved more from his powerful run down the left in the 51st minute, but his whipped cross was gathered by home goalkeeper Allan Fleming.

David Syme came close to scoring an own goal in the 57th minute, connecting with Andrew Steeve’s driven cross, but he was fortunate to see the ball fly wide of the goal.

Fotheringham blasted over the bar n the 62nd minute, and goalmouth scramble in the 69th minute culminated with Joe McGovern smothering the ball.

Steeves was denied by the crossbar in the 71st minute, and the let-off almost proved crucial five minutes later when Bradley Smith hit the woodwork then skied the rebound.

The final two chances both fell to Montrose, Templeman having a low shot held and Cammy Ballantyne sending a swerving half volley over the bar.
