Peterhead 1 Montrose 1

With seconds remaining this was undoubtedly our poorest performance of the season and a game we deserved to take nothing from, having created very little compared to the home side - but then up pops Sanny and suddenly our day is far from dull.

The signs were ominous from the start when McAllister cut in from right and curled a left foot shot that clipped the top of the bar. This was followed shortly after with McLean glancing a header just wide.

Ten minutes in we had our first attempt when a Watson header from a Campbell free kick was easily saved by the home side's own Fleming between the sticks.

Peterhead came close again when Brown's looping header from a Gibson free kick cleared the bar and at the other end Campbell lined up his customary free kick from 20 yards but was unable to hit the target.

The home side started the second half equally strong and a defence splitting ball eluded both Allan and Fleming but McAllister was unable to turn it in at the far post.

Continuing to hold the upper hand Smith had a snapshot from 25 yards that flashed wide of goal before McIlduff fired from a sillier range straight at Fleming.

The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when a Gibson free kick was cleared to the edge of box and with us slow to react Leitch pounced and his half hit shot drifted agonisingly up and over Fleming into top right corner, ironically just after the home side's main threat, McAllister had left the field.

We reacted well and from a Templeman knock down Webster's shot from the edge of the box, only our second on target all day, was not strong enough to worry Fleming.

With the headlines written and the unbeaten run almost in the bin, a delightful corner from Fotheringham was met on the sweet spot by Templeman who from 10 yards bulleted a header that would have landed in Links Park had it not been for the net.

Thinking we had stollen a point, goal scorer McIlduff almost took the wind from our sales when another mishit cross caught out Fleming but thankfully bounced off the bar.

A great result, against a strong Peterhead side and we now look forward to a top of the table battle at home next week to Stirling Albion.
