Montrose 1 Clyde 3

Montrose suffered their first defeat of 2018, Danny Lennon recording his first win since taking the reins at Broadwood in November.

The opening quarter of an hour produced no clear cut chances until Montrose’s Kerr Hay dragged a shot wide of target from the edge of the box in the 14th minute.

Clyde took the lead in the 24th minute, ALLY LOVE heading over Montrose goalkeeper Jordan Millar from 12 yards out.

Gary Fraser could have equalised almost immediately when he connected with Hay’s cross, but his stabbed shot was blocked.

Hay also had a chance to get on the score sheet, but his shot from 25 yards out was held by Blair Currie.

Clyde looked dangerous throughout the first half, Mark Lamont sending a free kick over the crossbar from the edge of the box and David Goodwillie almost capitalising when Iain Campbell gave the ball away deep in his own half, Millar managing to hold the former Scotland striker’s low shot.

The second half started in the worst possible fashion for Montrose, DAVID GOODWILLIE controlling the ball on the edge of the Montrose box and firing a shot into the bottom corner of Millar’s net.

Montrose substitute Chris Templeman came close to scoring twice in three minutes, his header from Andrew Steeves’ cross deflected wide and a header from a Lewis Milne corner tipped over the crossbar.

When Montrose lost possession from the subsequent corner, Clyde  pushed up the park, MARK LAMONT finding space to curl a shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Clyde continued to push forwards, Goodwillie firing over from the edge of the box.

Montrose were handed a lifeline in the 66th minute when Callume Home tripped Templeman in the Clyde box. GARY FRASER dispatched the penalty kick low to Currie’s left.

Clyde should have had a fourth goal in the 76th minute when Millar spilled an Ally Love free kick, Goodwillie poking the rebound wide of the goal.

Templeman was denied again in the 78th minute, his header from Milne’s corner headed off the line by Barry Cuddihy.
