Peterhead 0 Montrose 1

An even, hard fought and nail biting encounter separated by a scrappy goal to extend our lead at the top to 4 points and create a new club record in the process.

The first half was short in goalmouth action with both teams cancelling each other out.

Brown headed a McAllister cross over the bar and when  Dillon misjudged a bouncing ball, McAllister latched onto it and fired across Fleming who did just enough to get a touch on the ball before smothering it.

It took us over half an hour before new dad Masson had our first attempt but his shot from the edge of the box was soft.

Fotheringham then tried his luck from 20 yards but his shot went high and wide.

With the ref about to blow for the break a Fotheringham corner was met by Templeman, but his header was kicked off the line.

The home side started the second half strongly and McCracken headed a Gibson free kick just over before a Ferry drive was cleared off our line by Fotheringham following a corner.

With 15 to play we got what proved to be the winner. A quickly taken free kick by Milne led to a scramble in the box and when the ball fell to CHRIS TEMPLAMAN 12 yards out his shot took a deflection, causing the ball to spin and bobble over the line to the delight of the great travelling support behind the goal.

We almost doubled our lead in freak fashion when Peterhead’s Fleming’s attempted clearance rebounded off Templeman but the keeper recovered well.

With time running out Peterhead pushed for an equaliser with first Brown heading over a Gibson free kick and then McAllister’s strength allowed him to out muscle Allan in the box but he blasted his effort over.

A brilliant effort from all the boys today, extending our run of consecutive away clean sheets to 6 games, breaking a record that has stood for over 30 years.

Next week we welcome Stenhousemuir to Links Park, C’Mon the Mighty MO!!!
