Montrose 1 Berwick Rangers 0

Montrose maintained their three-point lead at the top of League 2 in a match overshadowed by a serious injury to Berwick Rangers striker Ousman See.

See went down with a leg injury 28 minutes into the first half. The match was delayed by an hour while waiting for an ambulance to arrive and administer pain relief to the Berwick striker before he could be moved from the pitch.

Montrose were leading by a single goal when the match was stopped, CHRIS TEMPLEMAN poking into the net at the near post from a low Andrew Steeves ball from the left.

The home side had also come close when Terry Masson shot over the bar from 20 yards out and Lewis Milne had a low shot held by visiting goalkeeper Robby McCrorie.

When the match resumed after See had been stretchered off the pitch, Montrose struggled to demonstrate the same level of control as they had beforehand.

Gary Phillips came close to equalising for Berwick, but Alan Fleming held his low shot.

Templemand could have added his second goal in the 41st minute, but headed wide from Cammy Ballantyne’s cross.

As the first half came to a close, Berwick’s Jack Hamilton had the ball in the Montrose net, but was ruled offside.

The same player started the second half in electric fashion, bursting past Sean Dillon, reaching the bye-line and sending the ball across goal. With no Berwick players in position to take advantage, Andrew Steeves cleared.

Berwick looked the more likely side to add to the scoreline for large parts of the second half, Darren Lavery having a long-range shot held by Fleming, but Montrose also came close, Steeves having a shot deflected wide and Milne shooting over from the edge of the box.

Montrose hearts were in their mouths deep into injury time when Oliver Fleming, unmarked at the back post, headed wide from a Steven Thomson free kick.
