Montrose 0 East Fife 2

Another game of two half’s where despite a spirited performance after the break, the game was already gone due to a poor first 45.

We started brightly when a Campbell lay off found Masson whose strike from 25 yards was saved well by the diving Long.

The visitors first real effort came from a Dowds cross but Court’s header was a comfortable save for Fleming, but after 20 mins, the keeper was left stranded when after a good spell of possession, Davidson let fly from 25 yards into the top corner.

As last week, we then fell two behind quickly after an Agnew shot was well saved by Fleming but Court was quicker to react to the rebound beating Campbell to the ball and poking home from just yards out.

Trying to get back into the game, Campbell delivered a great in-swinging corner but Rennie was just unable to make contact at the far post.

It could have been 3-0 when Dunsmore broke away but instead of passing the ball he chose to shoot from too far out and Fleming had an easy catch.

Our chance came just before the interval when a Redman flick was latched onto by Rennie who beat his man but from close range couldn’t beat Long who made a good save.

We were, in the main too shot shy, typified by our first chance of the second half where good build up play seen 3 players all have the chance to pull the trigger and when Masson eventually took charge he curled his effort wide from just outside the box.

Antoniazzi, who came on at half time looked bright and positive and when his shot from inside the box was saved Rennie reacted to the rebound, but his effort was saved and the keeper then saved again from Rennie’s second effort.

We had the better of the second half, but East Fife had a couple of counter attacks, and from one of these Slattery’s close range effort was brilliantly saved by Fleming showing great reactions.

Our luck in front of goal was summed up right at the end when a good Harrington cross found Masson, whose header hit the bar and Henderson’s follow up was then headed off the line.

Next week we get a break from league action for an IRN BRU Cup trip to Dumbarton.
