Stenhousemuir 3 Montrose 2
Having come back not once but twice, we somehow managed to take nothing from the game and finish the first quarter of matches propping up the table.
Our first half was excellent and we should have been comfortably ahead at the break.
Antoniazzi was first to threaten when with a great touch and turn in the middle of the park he drove to the edge of the box before pulling his shot wide.
Cavanagh then delivered a great cross that bounced just out of reach of Johnston in front of keeper.
We should have gone ahead when a Campbell cross was parried by Smith and Webster fired in the rebound that but it was cleared off the line.
The home side responded when a good turn and shot inside the box from Cook was well blocked by Dillon.
Despite our pressure the Warriors opened the scoring with a counter attack when a flick from McMenamin played in Cook who ran through and fired past Millar from 20 yards despite getting a hand to it.
If was almost two when Tena curled a 30 yard free kick just wide, but it was ourselves that scored next to level things when Johnston played a through ball for Antoniazzi who slipped it under the outrushing Smith to score his first goal for the Club.
We should have taken the lead from the spot after Cavanagh was fouled, but Campbell’s well struck penalty was well saved at full stretch by Smith.
Making matters worse, right on the whistle a great headed goal from Masson off a Webster cross was chalked off for a foul that few on the pitch or in the stands seen.
The home side came out strong in the second half and first from a Donaldson cross, McGuigan headed over from close range before soon after from a low Cook driven cross, McMenamin got there just ahead of Campbell to fire past Millar.
Webster had a great chance to level when from a Campbell cross he found space 10 yards out but put his header over.
Rennie came off the bench and almost made an immediate impact when Johnston set him up but his powerful drive was well saved.
Campbell delivered a string a great corners throughout the game, all of which were defended well, bar one when Smith misjudged the cross but Dillon was unable to react quickly enough at the far post.
We got a deserved equaliser late on when following a Webster blocked shot, the ball sat up nicely for Steeves who volleyed into the far corner from just outside the box.
Thinking we were to draw 2-2 for the second consecutive week, the home side had other ideas and threw everyone forward in added time and after some sustained pressure the ball broke to McGuigan inside the box who finished confidently into the top corner.
A really tough one to take and thankfully we get a break from league business next week as we make the long trip to Ross County.
