Montrose 0 Airdrieonians 3

A poor display today that led to us going down to a heavy defeat against an Airdrie side that were clinical in front of goal.

We could have scored first when Webster met an early Campbell corner but his close range side foot effort was blocked and cleared off the line.

Carrick then cut inside past Dillon and fired across goal but also past the far post.

A Dillon slack pass across the box allowed Conroy to try his luck with a first time effort but it was an easy catch for Millar.

Conroy almost caught Millar out soon after when instead of crossing in a free kick he went direct at goal but Millar tipped it round the post.

From the resulting corner we were slow to react and Cavanagh committed a foul to concede a penalty, from which Duffy buried the ball to Millar’s right despite the keeper going the right way.

We tried to respond when Webster faked with his right foot from the edge before cutting back onto his left, but then blasted well over.

Just before the break our troubles were doubled when Duffy got the break of the ball and from a tight angle slid his shot under Millar into the far corner

We almost got back in the game straight after the break when after great work from Steeves, his cross was met at the far post by Rennie, but his side foot effort was tipped over by Hutton.

Soon after another Campbell corner was flicked on by Rennie but Johnston was unable to get enough contact on the ball from close range.

It was almost 3 when a delicate Victoria chip found Carrick, who smashed his effort off the cross bar.

Rennie then neatly played in Antoniazzi, who created an angle in the box but blasted wide.

Our day was summed up when after a great take, Webster’s well struck shot towards goal was wildly sliced by Page, but it went harmlessly wide.

Rennie headed down for Antoniazzi, but his volley from 25 yards went just wide.

The game was put out of site with ten minutes remaining when Carrick again struck a great effort against the bar and Victoria was in space to slide home the rebound.

Our last attempt came from a Webster free kick that Rennie headed, but Hutton got his finger tips to it and when the ball fell to Bolochoweckyj six yards from goal, the big defender blasted his volley over the bar.

So we move on to yet another Angus Derby next week as we make the short trip to Brechin.
