Montrose 0 Annan Athletic 0

A scoreline that reflects a game sadly lacking in entertainment and one can only hope for better in the replay this coming Tuesday at Galabank.

The visitors started brightly and from a Wright cross Wallace volleyed over.

Johnston was next to try with a long drive but it was an easy save for Fleming.

Our first chance came when Callaghan chased down the ball on the touchline but when he found Johnston the striker could only shoot wide from a narrow angle.

The returning Campbell almost played in Johnston with a raking through ball but the frontman just failed to connect.

Annan’s Johnston dribbled to the line avoiding tackles as he went until Dillon put the ball out for corner from which Sonkur headed wide unchallenged.

The second half took 20 mins to get going when Smith ran clear but the alert Fleming was quickly off his line to smother the danger.

From a Campbell free kick Bolochoweckyj glanced his header wide and soon after the big defender had a shot blocked at close rang with a suspicion of hand ball.

With chances few and far between, Antoniazzi should have done better when Harrington crossed, but instead of shooting with his right, the youngster tried to move the ball to his stronger left foot and the chance was gone.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead when Wallace headed home but it was ruled offside.

Sensing an upset, the Galabank side continued to counter attack at every opportunity, with Moxon’s shot deflected, Wilson shooting over and Smith’s effort straight at Fleming.

At the other end, an Antoniazzi floated corner found Bolochoweckyj but his header was too soft and wide.

Our last effort came when Watson crossed but Johnston failed to make a good enough contact and the ball fell kindly for Mitchell.

Bolochoweckyj was then surprisingly sent off for a supposed head but.

With all minds on the 4th round draw and the replay, Moxon almost grabbed the headlines when he cracked a thunderbolt from 20 yards that flew past a stationary Fleming and smacked off the post.

So we live to fight another day, Tuesday in fact so C’Mon the Mighty MO!!!
