Montrose 1 Arbroath 3 aet

A PAUL McManus hat-trick consigned Montrose to an extra time defeat and a Scottish Cup exit at the hands of their fiercest rivals.
McManus put Arbroath head just four minutes into the match, latching onto a pass from Simon Murray and slipping a low shot under Stuart McKenzie.
Montrose equalised in first half stoppage time, Paul Harkins playing a neat one-two with Scott Johnston before scrambling through the Arbroath defence and poking the ball into the net.
Neither side could find the winning goal in the second half of regulation time, taking the encounter into extra time. Arbroath again struck early, McManus on target two minutes after the restart when he connected with a Scott McBride square ball and finishing low.
McManus completed the scoring 10 minutes later when Murray passed the ball across goal to set up the veteran striker for his hat-trick.
Both sides created a number of chances across the 120 minutes, Paul Watson shooting from 30 yards in the 8th minute, only to see his shot held low by visiting keeper David Crawford.
Harkins came close in the 20th minute when he connected with a Ross McCord free kick in the box, but he couldn't apply the finish.
A minute later, a corner to the back post was headed down by Garry Wood, only for Watson to send a weak toe poke at former Montrose man McKenzie.
Garry Wood came close to scoring in the 44th minute when he flicked his header wide from a Watson free kick.
The second half started with Bobby Linn forcing McKenzie into a point-blank save. Shortly afterwards, Johnston lost the ball on the edge of the Montrose box, only for Adam Hunter to shoot over.
McManus was a persistent threat to the Montrose back line, having two shots saved in quick succession.
Ross McCord came close to putting Montrose ahead in the 56th minute, but his 25-yard shot flew inches wide.
Arbroath's Scott McBride could have scored a tremendous solo effort in the 61st minute, but his shot was blocked after a lung-bursting run through the middle of the park.
Wood came close again in the 62nd minute, heading over from a McCord free kick. Seven minutes later a persistent run from Harkins saw him reach the bye-line, but his driven ball across the goal couldn't find a Montrose player able to apply the finish.
McKenzie again came to Montrose's rescue in the 72nd minute, pulling off an acrobatic stop to keep Linn's backheeled shot out of the top corner. McKenzie then held a shot from the same player from the corner that followed.
With five minutes of normal time remaining, Watson sent a free kick wide from the edge of the box.
Montrose continued to seek a goal after Arbroath moved back in front early in extra time, Jonathan Crawford heading wide from a Masson corner.
Graham Webster came close for Montrose with six minutes of extra time remaining, heading against the crossbar from a corner. Arbroath immediately broke up the park, Murray forcing a good save from McKenzie.
Terry Masson could have scored three minutes from the end, cutting inside from the right before firing a shot across goal and an inch wide of the post.
