Montrose FC rounded off their pre season build up with a home defeat to a Dundee United under 20 side at Links Park last Tuesday.
After an even first half it was United who took a two goal lead thanks to two defensive mistakes from Montrose with the Gable Endies replaying late in the match with a Paul Watson penalty.

Montrose had the first opportunity when Harkins was fouled outside the box but Stephen O’Neil fired his free kick over the crossbar.

Five minutes later Garry Wood picked up a pass from Mercer but he blasted his shot wide of goal.

Dundee United had a rare chance on the half hour mark when Ola Adeyemo latched onto a goal kick from McGovern and as McKenzie hesitated he shot wide of the far post.
In the 34th minute Montrose were forced into a change when Crawford went off injured and was replaced by Scott Webster after appearing to turn his knee on the pitch.
Webster should have opened the scoring five minutes after coming on but after breaking clear inside the box he hesitated and his effort was blocked for a corner kick.
At the break Montrose made six changes off went McCord, O’Neil, Mercer, Wood, Robb and Harkins and on in their place came Day, Deasley, Johnston, Masson, Watson and Cavanagh.
In the 50th minute substitute Deasley found Watson but from 25 yards out he blasted the ball over the crossbar.
Three minutes later Masson broke into the box and set up Cavanagh but he could only shoot straight at keeper McGovern.
On the hour mark Dundee United opened the scoring Masson gave the ball away and his allowed Adeyemo to cross for REGHAN TUMILTY who headed into the net from close range.
Montrose almost had an equaliser four minutes later when a Deasley cross found Cavanagh who saw his first time shot blocked by McGovern.
In the 68th minute Deasley sent Masson racing into the box but the midfielders shot went inches wide of the far post.
