If the Gable Endies are to earn a play-off place, then this was a must win fixture.

The home side got off to a dream start after just five minutes when Liam Scullion, under no real pressure, stroked the ball back towards his own goal. Unfortunately for the defender it hit the post and rolled into the net to give the Gable Endies the lead.

Three minutes later Blair Lyons won a corner on the left but the kick came to nothing. A minute later, Lyons broke clear of the Clyde defence but was flagged offside.

On ten minutes Rory McAllister cut inside from the right flank but his shot was deflected by Clyde keeper’s Parry legs at the expense of a corner. The corner was cleared as far as Graham Webster on the edge of the box, but his shot was blocked.

After 22 minutes Craig Brown got in on the act but his attempt was also blocked. Minutes later, McAllister broke clear, and his shot appeared to be blocked by a Clyde hand but referee Dan McFarlane awarded a corner.

The home side went further ahead after 32 minutes when a Liam Callaghan corner from the right was headed into the net by Sean Dillon.

It was all Montrose and a Lyons chip was saved before Masson shot wide from the edge of the box and a minute later the same player fired just past.

Three minutes into the second half Montrose fans’ hearts were in their mouths as Ross Matthews took a pass back and elected to dribble past an attacker but the young keeper got away with it.

At the other end McAllister headed narrowly past from a Liam Callaghan corner.

Clyde might have got a lifeline on 68 minutes when home keeper Matthews failed to gather a cross in a crowded box but Paul Watson was on hand to clear the danger.

Overall, Montrose always looked the better side and the Bully Wee rarely threatened the home goal, although they came more into the game in the second half.

In the end, it was three valuable points in the race to put the Gable Endies back in play-off contention.
