Montrose FC have confirmed that despite earlier beliefs that Terry Masson was closing in on the all-time Club record for appearances of 432, new archive information, recently uncovered, shows the record to actually be an incredible 500 games, set by Club Legend Les Barr in two spells at Links Park between 1971 and 1989.

Whilst at 432, Club Ambassador and Legend David Larter remains the record holder for a goalkeeper, the new data also shows Legend Bobby Livingstone now in second place with 447, set between 1966 to 1980.

Having currently made 420 appearances for the Mighty Mo, Masson is set to surpass David Larter’s record by Christmas, moving him into third placed of all time appearance holders at the Club.

Club Historian, Steve Doyle explained, “The confusion seems to have come from us being unaware that some of our archive records only included league appearances, and in some cases did not include appearances made from the bench.”

The new data referred to above has been obtained from ‘A Record of Post-War Scottish League Players’ published by John Litster and Scottish Football Historian magazine.

Steve added, “John Litster in my opinion has the best statistics available, so it is always good to find accurate information like this and correct our records for the future.”

David Larter commented, “Whilst I am obviously disappointed to hear this news on a personal note, it is only right that, as a Club we act on this new information and set the records straight. Consequently, I would like to congratulate both my good friends Les and Bobby on being fairly recognised for their incredible contribution to the Mighty Mo.”
