GABLE ENDIES SIGN UP PROMISING UNI STRIKER ON PRE-CONTRACT

Montrose FC have signed Ben Maciver-Redwood from Lowland League side University of Stirling on a pre-contract that will see the talented striker move to Links Park in the summer.

Born and bred in Cornwall, the 22-year-old spent most of his teen years within the Torquay Youth Academy before moving north in 2020 to begin his studies at Stirling University. Immediately joining the football setup, Ben played for the U20s for two seasons before stepping up to the first team, where last term his impressive 22 goals and 17 assists helped secure a 4th place finish in the Lowland League.

The strikers good form has continued this season with a tally of 18 goals to date, all of which has convinced Montrose to move quickly.

Assistant Manager Ross Campbell explained, “We are delighted Ben has agreed to join us, he has done really well at Lowland league and British Universities Premier league level and as a result a number of clubs were interested in securing his services. We believe he is good enough to make the step up to League One and are very excited about what he can potentially bring to our group.

“I would once again like to personally thank Chris Geddes and everyone at University of Stirling for their help in making this happen.”

On his big move, Ben added, “I’m thrilled about the opportunity to join Montrose. During my time at university, I had the chance to play against some tough competition, including teams from League 1 and League 2, as well as Dundee United in the Scottish Cup and I believe I performed well in those matches.

“I understand it’s a level up, but the challenge motivates me. I’m eager to test myself and improve during pre-season training with Montrose. I appreciate Ross sharing insights into the club’s ethos and I am excited about contributing positively to the team and continuing to develop my skills throughout the season.

“I’m also thankful for the guidance of Chris and the other coaches at the uni, which has played a significant role in my development as a player.”

Ben becomes the fifth uni scholar to be snapped up by the Angus side in recent years, joining Craig Brown and Blair Lyons, also from Stirling, together with Ali Shrive and Aidan Quinn from Heriot Watt University.
