CLUB CAPTAIN SIGNS ON FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Montrose FC have agreed a one-year contract extension with Paul Watson, keeping the Club Captain at Links Park for an incredible 13th season, until the summer of 2025.

Having just completed his testimonial celebrations, the 38-year-old has clocked up an impressive 362 appearances for the Gable Endies, netting 44 times and remains the Club’s second longest serving player behind Terry Masson.

Manager Stewart Petrie has often spoken highly of the Dundee born midfielders natural leadership qualities and was clearly keen to keep the highly influential character around for another campaign, saying, “I am delighted Paul has agreed to sign this extension. His commitment and connection with this Club is incredibly strong and unquestionable.

“Injuries restricted his game time a little last year but as always, he remained a positive influence and guiding voice in and around the dressing room, both at training and on game days. We pride ourselves on how closely knit our group is, which is always challenged with the introduction of new faces, particularly younger ones, and this is where Paul plays a key role as Club Captain in ensuring everyone settles in and bonds quickly.

“There is no doubt Paul will transition into management in the very near future, but for now we are delighted to have his playing services at our disposal for what is set to be another exciting and challenging season ahead.”
