Montrose FC have extended young Alex Balfour’s amateur contract for a further 12 months after a cruel injury blow brought last season to an abrupt end for the 16-year-old.

Initially signed on a 6-month deal back in March from Junior side Tayport, Alex suffered a freak ankle break in two places whilst warming up as a substitute against Annan Athletic in his first match.

Undeterred, the talented Dundee Youth Academy graduate has faced his recovery with bravery and determination and is now only a few weeks away from returning to full fitness.

Manager Stewart Petrie said, “Alex has done incredibly well to bounce back from such a bizarre injury so quickly. As we never got a chance to see what he was capable of back in March, it was an easy decision to extend his deal for another 12 months and we remain excited to see how he handles the challenge of stepping up from Junior to League 1 level.”
