LYONS COMMITS FUTURE TO GABLE ENDIES UNTIL 2027
Montrose FC have agreed a 2-year contract extension with Blair Lyons, keeping the highly talented forward at Links Park until at least the summer of 2027.
Manager Stewart Petrie initially signed the 27-year-old in the summer of 2019 from Lowland League side University of Stirling and two years later, following a single season stint with Partick Thistle, brought the Glasgow born winger back once more to Links Park.
In his two spells with the Gable Endies, Lyons has amassed 162 appearances and scored 34 goals, including a brace at Kelty Hearts back in April to secure an incredible fifth Championship Play-Off spot in 6 seasons for the Angus side, as well as most recently a winner in the Premier Sports Cup against Edinburgh City back in July.
Commenting on the news, Blair said, “I am really happy to commit my future again to the Club. Overall, it wasn’t too hard a decision as my four seasons at Montrose have been the most enjoyable of my career.
“The Club and the people involved mean a lot to me and we have had many ups and downs over the years, but I feel there is still more exciting times to come.”
Petrie added, “This is great news for everyone associated with the Club. Blair is a special talent and arguably one of the best players in the league. As such, he is highly sought after, so to secure his services until at least 2027 is just fabulous.
“Blair’s energy, directness and ability to drive at defences makes him really exciting to watch and his form last season, combined with his goal return was pivotal to our play-off finish.”
This news, combined with other recent signing and contract announcements from the Club has Petrie believing the strength, depth, and togetherness of this current group of players is the best he has had at his disposal in his time in charge at Links Park, and with the season starting with a four game unbeaten run there is much for Mo fans to get excited about.
