PETRIE ACTS ON DEADLINE DAY TO BRING TITLE WINNING RENNIE BACK TO LINKS PARK
Montrose FC have completed the signing of former Gable Endie Martin Rennie on transfer deadline day, following the strikers recent release from Irish Premier Division outfit, St Patrick’s Athletic FC.
Having left Links Park back in January, as the Clubs first ever international transfer, the move across the Irish Sea to full time football didn’t quite work out for the 26 year old, hindered greatly by the onset, soon after his arrival, of the pandemic lockdown.
On hearing the news of his release over the weekend, Manager Stewart Petrie moved quickly to bring the frontman back on a 2 year deal.
The Kirkcaldy born striker netted 20 times in 74 appearances for Petrie’s side after joining from Junior side Lochgelly Albert in January 2018, but to the Mo faithful he will always be remembered for his vital assist to Jamie Redman’s league winning goal against Elgin in April 2018.
Petrie said, “I am delighted to see Martin returning. It’s a shame his move to St Pat’s didn’t work out, but these things happen in football and what’s important now is we get him back playing at a level we know he can.
“He is super keen and excited to get back involved with the boys. He was a great asset for us first time around, and I fully expect him to be the same again.”
Rennie will go straight into the squad to face Ross County in the Gable Endies opening Betfred fixture at home on Wednesday night.
