BALLANTYNE AGREES GABLE ENDIES CONTRACT EXTENSION
Defender Cammy Ballantyne has signed a 1 year contract extension with Montrose FC, keeping him at Links Park until the summer of 2022
Since returning to the Gable Endies in 2019 from Dumbarton, the 24 year old has taken his total club appearances to 118, and his goal tally to 7, including two impressive strikes against Premiership opposition last season, first against Ross County in the Betfred Cup and more recently in the 3-1 defeat to Kilmarnock in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
The Glasgow born full back first arrived at Links Park in August 2016 on the first of three loan spells from Dundee United. Under Manager Stewart Petrie’s tutorage, the young defenders potential flourished, culminating in a call up to the Scotland Under 21 squad in March 2017 against Estonia.
The following season, Ballantyne went on to become a vital part of Petrie’s Ladbrokes League 2 winning side, being voted League 2 Player of the Month for November and securing a place in the SPFL Team of the Year.
On being released by United in the summer of 2018, Cammy moved to Dumbarton, where he featured over 30 times for Jim Duffy’s side.
Petrie said, “I am delighted we have been able to extend Cammy’s contract. He gives us energy and a natural balance at the back with Andy Steeves on the left and is a great character to have around.”
