Montrose Football Club have completed the signing of Lucas Birnstingl. The 24 year old goalkeeper had appeared as a trialist in the Gable Endies last two fixtures against Elgin City and Clyde.
Lucas started the season with Airdrieonians as back up to former Montrose goalkeeper Andy McNeil before his short term contract came to and end.
Canadian born Birnstingl moved to Scotland from Canada three years ago for a trial at Kilmarnock and was also on the books of Clyde and Dundee before playing for Bo’ness United Juniors.
Birnstingl was with Queen’s Park last season joining the Spiders in October 2013.
He will now via with Stuart McKenzie for the number one jersey at Links Park.
Lucas is pictured with assistant manager Lee Wilikie and goalkeeper coach John McCafferty at Links Park.
The all important encounter in a match that could have gone either way came in the 71st minute when midfielders Paul Watson’s shot took a wicked deflection to find its way into the net and give Montrose all three points.
It was hard battle with both sides creating good chances without taking them in the Elgin sunshine but in the end it was George Shields side who took the all important three points and get back to wining ways after two defeats to Arbroath and Albion Rovers.Lineups Report Photos
