Albion Rovers Mascot

Saturday’s mascot was Daniel Flannigan who is aged 10 and attends St Margaret’s primary school in Montrose.
Originally from Bellshill, and moved to live in Montrose just over a year ago and loves it.
Enjoys all sport particularly football (not playing for a team now), golf (junior member of Royal Montrose) and athletics. Always looking for a challenge, at the age of 6 climbed Ben Nevis.
Before moving to Montrose he attended Parkhead on occasions to watch Celtic, but now has been to a few Montrose home games.
He was looking forward to attend the Albion Rovers game to watch Montrose hopefully get a home win, with the Rovers being close to Bellshill. The last time Daniel attended a Rovers game, Celtic beat the Rovers for the Jock Stein Friendship cup (Sept 2010). It’s now in his interest for his new home team to beat Albion Rovers.

Barry Grainger Lounge

On Saturday members of the family of Barry Grainger travelled to Links Park to see the club open up the Barry Grainger Lounge in his honour. Barry who was a loyal supporter of the club and was liked by everyone he met sadly passed away earlier in the year. Barry’s wife Jenny has kindly contributed these words for the website. “I would like on behalf of my family to thank everyone who enabled the Barry Grainger Lounge to become a reality.  Barry would have been so proud and delighted for this to happen.  He supported Montrose football club from the time he first started work - over 55yrs ago, and was so proud when you made him Hon. Vice President of the Montrose FC Supporters’ Club.  His visits to Montrose once or twice a year with his nephew John were the highlights of the year, and everyone was so welcoming to him.

Away Travel - Elgin City

Elgin City 20th September Kick Off 3pm

Road: Coming from the East or the West along the A96, continue into Elgin until you reach the roundabout that has Elgin Town Hall situated on one corner. Turn at this roundabout onto the A941 (North Street) towards Lossiemouth. After a short distance down this road, take the second road on your left (Borough Briggs Road) and the ground is situated down this road on your right. There is plenty of street parking around the ground.

Train: A train leaves Montrose at 11:10 for Aberdeen, arriving at 11:51. You would then need to change here to catch another train to Elgin. This train leaves Aberdeen at 12:00, arriving in Elgin at 13:27. Please note that you only have about 10 minutes to change trains at Aberdeen. Elgin train station is about a mile from the ground and should take about 15 minutes to walk. As you leave the station turn left and continue up a steep hill. Continue straight on this road crossing two roundabouts and at the third roundabout turn left. Go up this road for some 500 yards and you should see the ground on your left hand side. For coming home a train leaves Elgin at 17:59 for Aberdeen, arriving at 19:38. From here you would then need to change train and catch the 19:47 train for Montrose, arriving at 20:26.

Montrose 0 Albion Rovers 2

Ten man Montrose Football Club lost their first home league match of the season when they went 2 – 0 to new league leaders Albion Rovers on Saturday.
Manager George Shields side game plan went out of the window in the 4th minute after the sending off of goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie and his fellow team-mates must be praised for the amount of effort they put into the rest of the match despite the result.
Albion Rovers didn’t look that good a side and it would have certainly been interesting to see how the match would have ended up if Montrose had managed to keep eleven men on the park for only the third time this season.
Montrose must now look towards grabbing full points at their next two away fixtures at Elgin City on Saturday and Clyde the following Tuesday.

Youngsters Out On Loan

Young strikers Declan Milne (pictured left) and Kyle McLeod have both joined Forfar Albion on loan as the next part of their development. Kyle made his debut last Saturday at Kinnoull and scored in Albion's 4 - 2 defeat.
