RENNIE COMPLETES EXCITING MOVE TO IRISH PREMIER DIVISION
Montrose FC frontman Martin Rennie has completed a transfer to St Patrick’s Athletic FC, 5 time winners of the Irish Premier Division.
Following agreement between the two clubs, a five figure sum has been paid for the 25 year old, making him the Gable Endies first ever international transfer.
The Kirkcaldy born striker has netted 20 times in 74 appearnaces for Stewart Petrie’s side since arriving at Links Park from Junior side Lochgelly Albert in January 2018 and also provided the vital assist for Jamie Redman’s league winning goal against Elgin in April 2018.
Martin ended last season as the Club’s top scorer, including 4 goals in as many games in the lead up to Christmas, catapulting the League 1 newcomers into a promotion playoff place and securing his first SPFL Player of the Month award.
Petrie said, “I am absolutely delighted for Martin. He has been great for us and we are really pleased to see him getting such an exciting move to fulltime football at such a high level.
“It speaks volumes for the Club that we can provide such a positive platform for players coming out of the Junior game and lower leagues.
“It’s incredible to think he could be soon playing in the Champions or Europa leagues with St Patrick’s and we wish him all the best for the future.”
Martin said, “My time at Montrose has been truly life changing. I’d like to thank everyone that’s helped me over my time at the club; the players, management team, background staff and the fans. Winning the league has to be the highlight, a day I’ll never forget. It’s always been my dream to play full time football and this is the opportunity I’ve been hoping for.”
Rennie’s move across the Irish Sea to Richmond Park follows the appointment earlier this season of former Montrose player Patrick Cregg, who transitioned into his first managerial position as Coach at St Patrick’s Athletic.
