Montrose 1 Annan Athletic 1
A much-improved second half showing resulted in Montrose coming from behind against league leaders Annan to pick up a point.
The visitors had taken the lead in the 27th minute when RYAN FINNIE's shot from 30 yards out was deflected through a pack of players on the edge of the Montrose box and into the bottom corner of Jordan Millar's net.
But having reached half time with only a one-goal deficit, Montrose took the fight to the league leaders, finding an equaliser through GRAHAM WEBSTER in the 51th minute. The winger controlled the ball just outside the box, took a touch and hammered a low shot past Jordan Hart.
Montrose were fortunate to reach the break only one goal down, with the Borders side looking strong as they sought to establish a five-point lead at the top of League Two.
But the first clear-cut chance came in the Annan box when Gary Fraser and Adrian Mallagaray both found themselves bearing down on Hart. By the time they had moved out of each other's path, Hart was in position to snatch the ball from Fraser's feet.
Annan's best chance of the first half, aside from Finnie's goal, saw Steven Sloan fire a half volley over the bar from 25 yards out.
The visitors could have gone two goals ahead in the 49th minute when Millar spilled Stuart McColm's cross, but Adam Harwood booted the ball clear.
Having found an equaliser, Montrose pushed hard for a winning goal, Mallagaray shooting across the face of goal with 55 minutes played.
Webster could have scored his second in the 63rd minute, but could only shoot wide after dribbling into the box.
Goalkeeper Millar almost became an unlikely goalscorer in the 72nd minute when his clearance bounced over Hart but out for a goal kick.
Mallagaray was inches away from winning the match for Montrose in the 77th minute, only narrowly failing to connect with Ryan Kenneth's low cross at the back post.
