PETRIE SHOWS FAITH IN SKELLY WITH LOAN AND CONTRACT EXTENSION
Montrose FC striker Josh Skelly has joined Junior side Broughty Athletic on loan until the end of the season as the injury stricken Gable Endie searches for match fitness.
A product of the Dundee FC Youth Academy, Skelly arrived at Links Park in the summer after leaving Angus neighbours Arbroath. After 2 loan spells, the 21-year old signed a permanent deal with Dick Campbell in the summer of 2016 becoming part of the Red Lichties league winning side, making over 20 appearances and scoring 5 goals.
The following season, injury prevented the Dundee born front man from establishing himself in the Gayfield side, prompting the move to Links Park for a fresh start.
Featuring only a handful of times at the start of the season for Stewart Petrie’s Ladbrokes League 1 newcomers, Skelly went out on loan to Cowdenbeath last October in search of game time, returning at the start of the year.
Stewart said, “Josh is a great lad, who has been very unlucky with injuries of late, but I still believe in him. What he needs right now is game time and plenty of it, which I am sure he will get at Broughty.
“We have agreed a contract extension with Josh, so hopefully he can come back pre-season fighting fit and make a fresh start as that’s what he deserves.”
Skelly’s new contract will see him remain at Links Park until the summer of 2020.
