Montrose 2 Brechin City 1

A confident start but nervy finish seen us collect our second league win of the season.

We came out flying and after just 5 mins took the lead. A good passing move and great cross from Ross Campbell was met by Henderson just yards out and although his first effort came back off the bar he was able to force the ball over the line at the second attempt.

The visitors first effort was a long range effort from Jackson that went harmlessly wide.

We went two up after McGreever fouled Henderson in the box and fresh from his penalty strike in midweek, Ross Campbell again scored from the spot.

A sweeping move from Brechin ended with Burns side footing an effort wide from 25 yards and then a cross from Orsi was headed over by Hill.

The visitors got back into the match when after some messy defending on our part, Jackson collected the ball and delivered a pin point cross for Melingui, who headed firmly past a stranded Fleming from 12 yards.

The game should have been all square when Melingui out muscled Steeves before laying the ball off for Sinclair who should have scored but put his shot wide of target.

On the stroke of half time, Antoniazzi came close to extending our lead when he linked up well with Henderson, but his effort was turned round the post by Brennan.

The visitors were first to threaten in the second half when Melingui turned sharply in the box, but he scuffed his shot and Fleming had an easy catch.

Melingui was an increasing threat and when Tapping drove in a corner, his bulleted header flew just over.

From the second phase of a Campbell free kick the ball fell to Dillon, whose driven shot from just inside the box was blocked.

Substitute Rennie came close when he side footed a Steeves cross, but Brennan managed to stretch a foot out to block.

Brechin threw everything at us, but we stood firm and when McGreever found himself in space deep in added time, he chose to try a delicate chip which drifted wide.

Great effort today and next week we have our furthest away trip to Stranraer.
