Raith Rovers 1 Montrose 1
A great performance today against the league favourites where a point was the very least we deserved as we emphatically stopped the rot of three league defeats on the bounce.
The ref created an early talking point when, from a Steeves cross, Johnston out jumped the keeper, who clattered the striker but the ref gave a free kick to the home side with Wright being substituted soon after through injury.
Another Steeves crossed caused havoc in front of goal and from the second ball Webster scuffed his shot wide.
Rovers first opening was created when Harrington slipped and let in Flanagan, but his cross was cleared by Campbell.
Soon after, the ball broke 25 yards out to Vaughan, who shot wide.
On the half hour mark we broke the deadlock when a period of pressure culminated in another Campbell corner, from which a great near post run and side flick from Webster flew past sub keeper, Thomson.
On the stroke of half time, Webster cut inside and burst forward but his shot was poor and wide.
Straight from the restart, the home side were more positive with Nisbet running through and shooting from distance but just wide of Millar’s goal.
Duggan then latched onto a through ball and got a slight touch but Millar was out quit to block.
We almost won the game just before the hour mark when from yet another Campbell corner, Rennie stretched his neck muscles and his header had to be touched onto the bar by Thomson before being cleared.
Minutes later the game was level, when after increasing pressure we failed to clear our lines from a cross ball and Mathews was alert to knock the ball goal ward from just inside the box and although Campbell’s attempted clearance found the back of the net, it seemed harsh to award it as an own goal.
Both teams went chasing a winner with first Masson snatching at a shot from 12 yards and skewing the effort wide and at the other end Nisbet was played in down the channel but his shot hit the side netting.
With time running out it was the big centre half’s who tried to make the difference with first Dillon receiving the ball from a corner, and from 25 yards letting fly but Thomson was up to the challenge with a great save at full stretch.
At the other end a marauding run from Wedderburn ended with him shooting over from distance.Well done boys, great effort today and next week we welcome Forfar Athletic to Link Park.
