Brechin City 1 Montrose 3
Somewhere over the rainbow, a victory awaits, our first in the league since August and thoroughly deserved.
We started the first half in positive mood and an Antoniazzi free kick found Rennie who put his header just wide of the target.
Despite the home side winning a corner, we almost scored from it on the counter attack when Antoniazzi fed Rennie again and the striker came closer with his shot across goal but the ball agonisingly came back off the post.
The young Don continued to be involved in all our positive play and next he set up Redman who struck his 35 yard drive wide.
Masson then had two set pieces, first delivering a corner onto Steeves head at the back post that went just wide and then driving direct at goal from a 22 yard free kick but it was straight at Brennan.
First to threaten in the second half, this time Rennie played Antoniazzi into the box but his shot from a tight angle was well saved.
The Glebe Park side responded with a quick counter attack that ended with a mazy dribble from Melingui whose shot was deflected and Fleming had to push the ball round the post.
The deadlock was broken, against the run of play when a dubious free kick was awarded against Dillon, when the big defender seemed to win the ball cleanly.
Burns swung in the dead ball and with a melee of players runnings across Fleming’s line of sight, the keeper was left stranded when no one got a touch and the ball ended up in the net.
We never gave up and soon after drew level when good work on the right from Johnston led to a cross into the danger area and Rennie was on hand to tap home from close range.
With 20 mins left the large contingent of Mo fans behind the away goal were on their feet when Antoniazzi’s clever flick in the middle of the park found Johnston and the energetic front man showed great composure to curl a long range effort into the top right corner beyond a despairing Brennan.
We almost put the game beyond Brechin when good work by Watson to keep the ball in play saw him pull back for Webster but his shot from 12 yards crashed off the bar.
Our deserved victory was confirmed just minutes from the end when Campbell found Webster on the wing, who drove in a low hard cross and Rennie was again in the right place to slide the ball into the net.
A great performance and next week we welcome Dumbarton, C’Mon the Mighty MO!!!!
