Montrose equalised in first half stoppage time, Paul Harkins playing a neat one-two with Scott Johnston before scrambling through the Arbroath defence and poking the ball into the net.
Neither side could find the winning goal in the second half of regulation time, taking the encounter into extra time. Arbroath again struck early, McManus on target two minutes after the restart when he connected with a Scott McBride square ball and finishing low.
McManus completed the scoring 10 minutes later when Murray passed the ball across goal to set up the veteran striker for his hat-trick.
