BAKER IAN WINS LUCKY NUMBERS JACKPOT DOUGH
Former baker Ian Johnston landed some unexpected dough last week when his numbers came up on the Montrose Football Lucky Numbers, netting him a tidy £2,600.
Run jointly by Montrose FC, Montrose Roselea JFC and Merpro AFC, the local community scheme has paid out more than £100,000 since it began back in 2008.
Ian is a well-known figure in the town, having spent 50 years with family business, Johnston the Baker before retiring 5 years ago.
Ian was delighted by the win saying, “I haven’t been told yet what I am going to spend it on, but we have just booked flights for a short break to see some of the family, so we will probably make that trip a little more special.”
Scheme Promoter Stuart Robertson added, “In the last 11 years we have raised over £130,000 to support local football and it is big wins like Ian’s that keeps the scheme so attractive. I would like to thank all those who regularly buy our tickets.”
Ian is pictured centre, receiving his bumper cheque from John Paton (Montrose FC) with from left to right, Alan Pirie (Montrose FC), Stuart Robertson (Roselea JFC) and Colin Duncan (Merpro AFC).
For more information on how to buy a weekly ticket, see the Montrose FC Facebook page or website.
DOUBLE INJURY BLOW
Our gutsy performance at the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday came at a cost with both Captain Paul Watson and Andrew Steeves forced off due to injury.
Paul has damaged ribs which will keep him out for a couple of weeks, but Andrews situation is worse with a collarbone injury that will need 6-8 weeks to heel.
We wish them both a speedy recovery.
Mike Gunn was a winner against Airdrieonians recently, scooping the top Hospitality raffle prize of a signed away shirt, presented by Co-Vice Chairman David Laing (Ethan Ogg collected on Mike’s behalf).
The signed ball was won by Richard Ogg (collected by Ethan) and Pete Wood won the bottle of Montrose wine.
