WATSON REACHES 250 GAMES FOR MIGHTY MO

Montrose FC Club Captain, Paul Watson made his 250th appearance for the Gable Endies recently against East Fife, a significant achievement in the modern game.

The Dundee born midfielder is the Clubs second longest serving player, contributing 37 goals since joining from St Andrews United back in 2012, the most notable of which came against Edinburgh City in April 2017 from inside his own half, which was subsequently nominated for the SPFL and the SPFA goal of the season.

The 33 year old, now in his third spell at Montrose, has certainly witnessed the highs and lows of Scottish football in his time at Links Park. Back in 2015, Paul was part of the inaugural Pyramid Playoff against Brora Rangers, then incredibly, just 3 years later found himself lifting aloft the Ladbrokes SPFL League 2 trophy for Stewart Petrie’s side, the Clubs first championship in 33 years.

Since stepping up to League 1, Paul has continued to play a key role, both on and off the pitch, as the Angus side have set about not only consolidating their higher status, but pushing for more success, with two consecutive promotion playoff place finishes and a third possibly just around the corner in the coming weeks.

Stewart Petrie said, “Paul is a top professional, natural leader and great Captain. He has committed many years of his career to this club and will undoubtedly become a legend in due course.”

Club Chairman, John Crawford added, “On behalf of the club I would like to congratulate Paul on reaching this significant milestone. We are currently privileged to have so many players showing the level of loyalty and commitment Paul has shown to Montrose FC, something I firmly believe is behind our recent success.”
