Adrian Says Farewell

Saturday will be the final game in a Montrose shirt for Adrian Mallagaray as he is heading back to Spain at the end of the season but the midfielder has more than enjoyed his time in Scotland and his time dawning the shirt of Mo.

Director Peter Stuart paid tribute to the impact the Spaniard had made in his short spell at Links Park during the End of Season Presentation Dance at the weekend. Presenting Adrian with a token of his appreciation, Peter finished his short speech with a message delivered in broken Spanish that has yet to be translated, but Adrian smiled and laughed.

Last week Adrian said, “I will return home next season, so I need to give thanks to everyone at Montrose. This has been an incredible experience and I have to say thanks to my teammates. I will be back one weekend next season to be in the stands and support the team!”

The midfielder explained how his teammates and his own willingness to adapt helped him settle very quickly at Links Park.

“If you don’t help yourself to adapt to a new club and country, your teammates aren’t going to be able to help you.

“I remember the first day at training John Holt and Paul Hegarty looked after me. The boys in the dressing room have been different class, and I have made some really good friends here. To be honest, my teammates are the best thing about the whole Montrose experience.

“At the start of the season I wasn’t fit, so I went to the gym and worked on my own. However, the manager and my teammates helped me a lot and they had confidence in me because my first few performances were really poor.

“They gave me more opportunities to show what I could do, and they continued to believe in me. Everyone has been incredible with me here, and I am really grateful to my teammates.”
