GABLE ENDIES ADD EXPERIENCE TO DEFENSE

Montrose FC have signed defender Iain Campbell on a one month deal and the experienced full back is expected to feature in tonight’s Irn-Bru Cup tie against Lowland League outfit East Stirling at Ochilview.

Manager Paul Hegarty suffered a double defensive injury blow recently, losing both new signings Michael Bolochoweckyj and Chris Hegarty in the Betfred Cup match against Alloa Athletic.

Whilst Bolochoweckyj is likely to return in a few weeks from his badly bruised ankle, Hegarty’s fate remains uncertain due to his ruptured Achilles.

Campbell’s arrival will strengthen the Links Park side and the 31 year old will add much needed experience to the back four.

The Kirkcaldy born defender started his career in 2002 with Dunfermline Athletic where he made 36 appearances for the Fife side. In 2006, he moved to fellow SPL club Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee and during his time there spent loan spells with both Ross County and Clyde.

In 2008 Campbell had one season with Alloa Athletic before joining Forfar Athletic where he enjoyed five seasons, 148 appearances and 13 goals.

Briefly moving to Cowdenbeath in 2014, Iain returned to Station Park, initially on loan, before resigning for The Loons last term.

Campbell scored against Montrose in the first round of the Challenge Cup last season in the 1 - 0 win but was released when Forfar were relegated to League 2 back in May.

Son of Dick Campbell, Iain has played under his father twice, at Ross County and Forfar and now joins forces with his brother, Ross at Montrose.
