Montrose 2 Falkirk 2

A DRAMATIC late goal for Falkirk gave the visitors a share of the points from an entertaining end-to-end encounter at Links Park.

The match was played at a furious pace from the start, Falkirk’s Michael Ruth the first to test the opposition goalkeeper with a shot from the edge of the box that Allan Fleming held.

Montrose’s new loan signing from Raith Rovers, James Keatings, could have opened his account just seven minutes into his debut, but he glanced a header wide from Craig Johnston’s cross.

Falkirk’s pacey forward Aidan Nesbitt looked dangerous throughout the match, and he came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute, but his shot dipped over the crossbar.

Montrose were handed a gilt-edged chance to open the scoring in the 23rd minute when referee Dan McFarlane spotted a push on Andrew Steeves in the Falkirk box as Keatings took a corner.

Graham Webster stepped up to take the penalty, but his low shot to Robbie Mutch’s left was well saved.
Falkirk were denied by the woodwork three minutes later, Charlie Telfer’s free kick from 25 yards out rattling the crossbar.

Webster came close again in the 30th minute when he turned Cameron Williamson on the edge of the box, but his low shot was held by Mutch.

The Bairns were denied by the woodwork again in the 36th minute when Kerr Waddell, attempting to intercept a square ball, slide tackled the ball onto the post.

The first half ended with Falkirk on the attack, Ryan Williamson sending a driven shot wide and Brad McKay heading wide from a corner.

Falkirk hit the woodwork for a third time three minutes into the second half, Declan McDaid powering down the left and sending a cross into the box, only for Nesbitt to crash his shot off the underside of the crossbar.
The deadlock was finally broken on the hour mark, Cammy Ballantyne dribbling to the bye line before cutting the ball back to WEBSTER, who hammered his shot into Mutch’s net.

Falkirk looked for an immediate equaliser, Paul Dixon heading wide from a free kick and Aidan Keena curling a shot well wide of the post. Charlie Telfer also sent a free kick high and wide from 30 yards out.

Montrose doubled their lead in the 75th minute, Lewis Milne squaring the ball to WEBSTER, the winger curling a left foot shot past Mutch from inside the box.

The two-goal cushion lasted only four minutes before KEENA slammed a 20 yard free kick into the top corner.
Milne could have restored Montrose’s advantage in the 80th minute, but his low shot was held.

A frantic final few minutes saw Falkirk equalise through Sebastian ROSS, whose cross from the right floated over Fleming’s head and in at the far post under pressure from Ruth.

Falkirk could have snatched a dramatic win three minutes into stoppage time, but Aidan Quinn blocked Ruth’s shot in the box.
