Montrose FC have agreed terms with Kelty Hearts for the transfer of Craig Johnston, allowing the striker to join his hometown club.

The 28 year old signed for Manager Stewart Petrie from Cowdenbeath just days after helping them survive a Pyramid playoff final in May 2017. The energetic striker went on to play an immediate and integral part in bringing League 2 title success to Links Park the following season, collecting the Ladbrokes Player of the Month Award in the October of that campaign.

A firm fans favourite, Johnston has amassed a total of 180 appearances for the Gable Endies and netted an impressive 34 goals, including a Scottish Cup hat-trick against Nairn County back in March 2021.

Petrie said, “I would like to personally thank Craig for everything he has brought to the Club over the last 6 years. His enthusiasm, energy and pace on the park always took you to the edge of your seat and I know the fans appreciated and enjoyed the effort that was always given. In the dressing room, let’s just say the laughter and player banter will simply not be the same with him gone.

“Craig will forever be part of the history here as a League winner, which he should be rightly proud of, but this is a good time for him to seek a new challenge and we wish him every success for the future with Kelty.”
