Montrose FC Director Alan Kenny has decided to retire from the Board after almost 15 years of dedicated service, and in doing so has also stepped down from his role as Club Safety Officer.

A lifelong Mo fan, Alan joined the board back in 2018 and soon after took on the then vacant and voluntary Safety Officer role, a position widely underestimated and misunderstood at lower league level.

With years of part time study required to gain nationally recognised qualifications, and being responsible each and every match day for the safety and well-being of all players, staff and supporters, both inside and outside the stadium, the role is a vital and all consuming one.

Alan said, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Montrose and I would like to especially thank all the safety team staff that have worked with me for their support over the years, with a special mention to our fabulous first aiders. I won’t be a stranger to Links Park as I hope to get along to see as many games as possible, and with that in mind I would like to take this opportunity to wish the board, management team, players and supporters all the best for the future.

“I know the Club will remain in very safe hands going forward with Graeme Anderson taking over, providing Safety Officer services and I wish him all the very best.”

Having worked with both Dundee and Dundee United for over 20 years, Graeme has a wealth of football match day experience, backed up by extensive services to public event management during his 30 year career with the Police, for which he was recognised in last years New Years’ honours list with an MBE.

Graeme added, “’I’m delighted to be taking over from Alan after his many years of fine service to the Club, and I am looking forward to ensuring the safety of everyone at Links Park on match days.”

Presenting Alan with a leaving gift, Club Chairman John Crawford commented, “On behalf of everyone at the Club I would like to thank Alan for his incredible contribution over the last 15 years. As well as being an active member of the Board, Alan has also served on our very active Fundraising Committee and of course has also been our Safety Officer.

“Much of what a Safety Officer does goes unseen, ensuring we constantly comply with all rules and regulations, but without them our games simply wouldn’t be able to take place, and so knowing how much time and personal effort Alan has committed to the role over the years, we really do owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

“Having recently retired from his day job, I know Alan and wife Anne plan to travel more and spend time with their grandson and we wish them all the very best for the future.
