Montrose FC Youth Academy graduate Luca Giacomini will head off to Edinburgh soon to begin a Sports Scholarship Program at Heriot-Watt University.

His 4 years of study towards a Civil Engineering Degree will be integrated with the same new football scholarship programme recently completed by summer signing Ali Shrive.

Launched just last year by Heriot-Watt, the programme offers supported pathways for students to study while receiving specialist support to advance their sport, including access to world-class training facilities.

Manager Stewart Petrie said, “I am delighted for Luca that he has landed this opportunity. As part of the scholarship programme he will play for the next 4 years for Heriot-Watt in the Lowland League, which means we have had to release him, but we will be keeping in close contact and keenly monitoring his progress with a view to bringing him straight back into our ranks when he completes his studies.
