Montrose FC have unveiled a fresh new governance structure for the Club, designed to allow renewed focus to both on and off-field aspects of the business.

Previously having one of the biggest Boards in Scottish football, the new structure will consist of a two tier setup of Directors and Associate Directors, together with subject focused committee groups.

Chief Exec Peter Stuart explained, “The current group of Directors have done an incredible job for many years now, particularly in the face of the recent pandemic challenges.

“However, having 13 Directors on the Board was beginning to restrict our ability to act decisively, operate flexibly and remain focused.

And so, going forwards, the new Board will consist of Chairman John Crawford, Chief Exec Peter Stuart, Directors Peter Davidson, Michael Fotheringham, Barry O’Neill, Finance Manager Iain Bridges and Club Secretary Brian Petrie.

A new tier of Associate Director will support the Board and these will be Andrew Stephen and Tracy Park.

Peter continued, “Our numbers have also reduced over the summer with the retirement of Alan Kenny, the stepping down from active board duty of John Paton and Malcolm Watters into Honorary roles, and of course the sad and sudden passing of our good friend Davie Laing.”

A number of new Committee groups made up primarily of staff and volunteers will focus on topics such as Club Academy, Players & Recruitment, MFC Women and Fundraising.

Peter added, “The intention is to have Director representation on these groups together with support from our Associate Directors in order to provide oversight and a direct reporting line to the board. We hope to add to this Associate tier as our new structure develops.”

To complete a summer of change for the Club, this announcement coincides with the arrival of 3 new faces in the Club office: Martin Johnston has taken up the role of Operations Manager with Graham Hulston and Cheryl Fleming joining the Club as Admin Assistants.

Peter said, “We were sorry to see both Davey Byrne and Lisa McEwan move on over the summer. They were well known faces to many of our fans and sponsors and I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank them for all their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future.

“We were delighted to have welcomed Martin to the Club last month and in just the last couple of weeks we have been able to complete our new look team with the arrival of Cheryl and Graham.

“We are all excited by what lies ahead, and I would ask everyone for a little patience in the coming weeks as all these changes bed in and further announcements are made. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is to deliver success for the football Club that we all love so much.”
