The BBC have today confirmed that Montrose FC Women’s first every game in the top flight of Scottish football will be screened live on BBC Sport Scotland and BBC Iplayer, as the Gable Endies welcome Celtic to Links Park on Sunday 13th August to kick off the 2023/24 season.

Whilst many have revelled over the summer in the girls amazing achievement of back to back championships to reach the summit, known as SWPL1, Manager Craig Feroz has been hard at work for some time, preparing for the challenge ahead.

Craig said, “What we achieved last year was truly great, but it’s now time to move on and get our heads around the enormity of the league we now find ourselves in.

“It was a bit surreal back in May to think we would be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rangers, Glasgow City, Hearts and Hibs, but when the fixtures drew us at home to Celtic on the opening day of the new season, the reality of it all set in big time.

“This will be the greatest challenge that I, and many of the girls have ever faced, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I joined the Club my ambition was to reach the top flight, and now we are here, I want us to now strive to establish ourselves at this level.”

Director of Women’s Football, Barry O’Neill hopes the town and community show their support for Craig and the girls over the coming months and embrace the opportunity that has come the way of the small Angus town.

Barry added, “It makes me so proud to say we are one of the 12 best women’s teams in the country. The scale of our whole operation has increased exponentially over the summer in preparation for what should be a really exciting campaign.

“Anyone familiar with SWPL1 will know that as well as regular live games on both the BBC and Sky, highlights from every game are also shown in a roundup show on the BBC each Monday, so our exposure will be incredible.

“Off the field, we have also brought the entire women’s operation under the control of the main football club, reinforcing our commitment to give Craig our fullest support. This has also allowed us to offer all the girls part time professional contracts, which for many was a first in their careers, something both Craig and I were extremely proud of.”

So if you would like to be part of the Club’s history, why not pop along to Links Park on a Sunday and cheer on your local side as they welcome the following teams over the coming season; Celtic, Rangers, Glasgow City, Hearts, Hibernian, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Hamilton and The Spartans.
