During a recent visit from the US to Montrose, Jeff Scott and family unveiled one of our latest stadium advertising boards, commemorating the long standing connection between his family, the Angus town, and their beloved football club.

Jeff’s Great-Great Grandfather, David Scott spent his entire life in Montrose and is buried in Rosehill Cemetery. David’s son, Alexander (Alec) Scott, was born in Kinnell in 1858 and brought up in India Street in Montrose. At the tender age of 19, Alec emigrated to New York to work as a flour mill hand and after moves to Missouri and Illinois, Alec landed in Kansas to work as a miller for A. Jefferies of Bushton, and whilst there he met and wed the Miller’s daughter.

In 1891 Alec welcomed his son David into the world and the family soon after moved to work in a mill in Utah, where the family has remained ever since, with David going on to have a son, also called David, who became Jeff’s father – are you keeping up? 

Jeff explained, “Our family connection to Montrose runs deep through the generations. My Father began traveling to Montrose back in the 1950’s and my brother and I both started traveling there in the 1980’s. Since then, we have travelled back with our respective families many times. 

“Over the years we have enjoyed the area, visiting the various towns and villages where our family lived and worked, such as Kinnell, St Vigeans, Inverkeilor, and Montrose. We even replaced the family tombstone in the 1990’s in Rosehill Cemetery.

“As far as Montrose FC is concerned, we always visit Links Park or attend a game when we are in town, and even once an away game in Falkirk. We love it, my boys all have a full wardrobe of MO kit’s from over the years and we are all very proud of our Scott ancestorial home- including our ‘home’ team – GO GABLE ENDIES !!!
